What is the
AENOR Sustainable Building certification?

This certificate recognises buildings that meet criteria of environmental sustainability, energy efficiency and comfort for users. It is based on a comprehensive assessment that measures the environmental impact and overall performance of the building, aligning it with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Benefits of certification:
- It provides added value and differentiation in the market.
- It guarantees a commitment to sustainability to developers and users.
- Improves positioning within sustainable construction trends.
Why is it more accessible to technicians?
- Its evaluation parameters are based on the Technical Building Code (CTE), which facilitates its understanding and application in the Spanish regulatory context.
- Translations and terms that do not have a direct correspondence with the terminology used in Spain are avoided, which simplifies the certification process.
Thanks to this adaptation, the manuals and assessment requirements are clearer and more accessible for the technical teams involved in the design and execution of projects.
How is certification obtained?
The process follows a rigorous methodology that evaluates three key aspects:
1. Process evaluation (optional). There are two families:
- Contribution to the sustainability of the project.
- Contribution to the sustainability of the construction of the building.
2. Evaluation of sustainable materials. All four families must have the AENOR N Sustainable seal:
- Structures.
- Envelope and partitions.
- Installations.
- Equipment.
3. Evaluation of building performance. Based on the 15 criteria Level(s):
- Mandatory indicators:
- Energy performance in use phase.
- LCC of the life cycle.
- Water consumption in use.
- Energy performance in use phase.
- Optional indicators (at least 6 are required for standard certification and 9 for Premium):
- Measurements of materials and useful lives
- Waste and construction and demolition materials
- Design for adaptability and refurbishment
- Design for deconstruction
- Indoor air quality
- Time outside the thermal comfort range
- Lighting and visual comfort
- Acoustics and protection against noise
- Thermal comfort and safety of occupants
- Risks due to extreme weather events
- Sustainable drainage
- Life Cycle Cost
- Measurements of materials and useful lives
