Regulatory Inspection in Industrial Safety

Industrial safety, as defined by Law 21/1992, of 16 July, on Industry, is aimed at "the prevention and limitation of risks, as well as protection against accidents and incidents capable of causing damage or harm to people, flora, fauna, goods or the environment, derived from industrial activity or from the use, operation and maintenance of installations or equipment and from the production, use or consumption, storage or disposal of industrial products".

Their practical application translates into a series of safety regulations, which establish the technical conditions or safety requirements that installations and equipment must meet, the technical procedures for assessing their conformity and the regulatory inspections that they must comply with initially, periodically or exceptionally.

For certain installations, compliance with the regulatory requirements in terms of industrial safety is proven by means of a certification or certificate issued by a control body that is valid throughout the national territory. The Authorised Control Bodies (OCA) are entities that have an accreditation issued by ENAC, which enables them to verify compliance with the safety conditions and requirements established in the Safety Regulations for industrial products and installations.
