What is
ITEAF?
The application of phytosanitary products must be carried out under the premises of protecting the environment and the health of the users of the equipment used. Royal Decree 1702/2011, of 18 November, regulates the mandatory inspections of plant protection product application equipment (ITEAF), establishing which types of equipment must be subject to them, the elements that must be checked, the frequency of the inspections and who must carry them out. Equipment that has not passed the ITEAF or agricultural MOT may no longer be used.
What types of equipment

1.- Mobile equipment dedicated to agricultural activity
- Hydraulic sprayers (booms or guns)
- Hydro-pneumatic sprayers (atomisers)
- Pneumatic sprayers (foggers) and centrifugal sprayers
- Dusters
2.- Fixed equipment and equipment in fixed installations and greenhouses
3.- Application equipment for aeral treatments
4.- Mobile equipment for other non-agricultural uses
What is the
frequency of inspection?
New equipment :
- Within the first 5 years after purchase.
Subsequent inspections :
- Agricultural work service companies: every 3 years.
- ATRIAS (Agrupaciones para Tratamientos Integrados en la Agricultura), ADS (Asociaciones de Defensa Sanitaria) and other similar associations: every 3 years.
- Agricultural cooperatives and other groups of farmers, as well as Communities of Assets grouping more than ten producers: every 3 years.
- Farmer: every 5 years.
- From 2020: every 3 years.
ALL EQUIPMENT MUST BE INSPECTED BEFORE 26 NOVEMBER 2016.

What do I need to know
about the ITEAF?
- The competence about the procedures, reports and results of the inspections is in the hands of the Autonomous Communities, which can establish PRIORITY CRITERIA for carrying them out depending on the ownership of the equipment, its characteristics, its age, its capacity, etc.
- The ITEAF is VALID IN ALL THE NATIONAL TERRITORY, as well as its result.
- In order to be able to carry out the inspection, THE EQUIPMENT MUST BE REGISTERED IN THE ROMA (Official Register of Agricultural Machinery of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment).
- The owner or user will receive the CERTIFICATE AND BULLETIN with the result of the inspection:
- Favourable: without serious defect
- Unfavourable: with serious defect, entails the non-use of the equipment until the defective elements are repaired.
