The energy consumption of the facilities of industries, buildings or complexes is controlled and monitored through different computer tools (both hardware and software), which allow extracting all the data related to said consumption and carrying out predictive analysis and monitoring of the same.

For many companies, the energy bill represents a major part of production costs, which is also subject to the volatility of energy prices. Reducing energy consumption is a financial issue, but it is also an environmental issue. Conducting an energy audit is essential to know the energy performance of a company, to know what possible improvements can be implemented and, where applicable, to comply with RD 56/2016. 

The Energy Efficiency Certificate of a building or part of it is a document that describes the energy characteristics of the building: thermal envelope, thermal and lighting installations, normal operating and occupancy conditions, thermal and lighting comfort conditions, quality of indoor air, etc., which determine its energy consumption, and, therefore, its Energy Efficiency Rating.

ISO 50001 is designed to help organisations in all sectors by providing practical ways to reduce energy consumption through the implementation of an energy management system.

ISO 50001 is based on continual improvement, a management system model found in other well-known standards such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. This model makes it easier for an organisation to integrate energy management into its overall efforts to improve its quality and environmental management.

ISO 50001 provides a framework of requirements for organisations to :

- develop a policy for more efficient energy use

- Establish goals and objectives to implement this policy

- Use data to better understand energy use problems and make decisions to solve them.

- Measure the results

- Review the effectiveness of the policy, and

- Continuously improve energy management.
